dispense with sb/sth: to stop using sb/sth because you no longer need them or it 免除,省却,无需。同义词:do away with
*Debit cards dispense with the need for cash altogether.

*I wish he would dispense with the pleasantries and get to the point.

dispense有分发、配药、实行、免除等意思,及物动词;也有特许,豁免的意思,不及物动词。
