每日一词学英语(120): nimby

We have to counteract the nimbys who say they want change, but not in their backyard. (From Telegraph, 26 August 2009: John Prescott attacks wind turbine 'nimbys')

今天这个词源于“not in my back yard”的第一个字母。(noun) (pl. -s or -ies) (humorous, disapproving) a person who claims to be in favour of a new development or project, but objects if it is too near their home and will disturb them in some way
*The nimbies were out in force against proposals for a high-speed rail link.

其实上面那句话中对这个词已经做了解释:nimbys are those who say they want change, but not in their backyard。

英国前副首相John Prescott强烈批评这些风力涡轮机的nimbys。这些人比较自私,是该批评。
