本周一（8月3号）英国的两家银行HSBC和Barclays公布了上半年财务状况，两家均有很好收益。

Along with most lenders at the moment, Britain’s healthy pair have been boosted by their investment banks. Barclays’ division saw profits double compared with last year, and HSBC’s unit did even better. Pent-up demand from companies to raise funds, as well as wider trading spreads and low interest rates, explain the windfall. pent是pen的过去分词，pen sb/sth up: to shut an animal or a person in a small space。
