把watchdog解释为“看门狗”显然不能令人满意。媒体上经常出现的watchdog应该是监察机构的意思。Wikitionary上的解释是：
A person or organization that monitors and publicizes the behavior of others (individuals, corporations, governments) to discover undesirable activity.

BBC网站有个Watchdog频道。今日头条讲的是watchdog调查各个公司的客户服务电话，看哪家让客户等待的时间最长。从这个角度看，watchdog相当于“曝光台”，是个替老百姓说话的地方。有了watchdog，某些人/机构就会有所顾忌，不至于为所欲为了。

在英文报道中经常见watchdog这个词，不知中文怎么翻译。也许用的多了，watchdog所对应的中文词就会渐渐为大家所熟悉。
