每日一词学英语(25): lick

这个词可作动词,也可作名词。别的意思不论,今天集中学习这个意思(from Wiktionary):
(colloquial) To overcome. 这是口语里的用法,写正式文章一般不用,除非是引用别人说的话(from The Timesonline)

“We all want to lick this problem — there's been a burst of confidence over the last few months, but really it's not based on any news. A lot of people think this recession is coming to an end.
